tree crown thinning

thinning opens the canopy of a tree, reduces weight on heavy limbs, allows light penetration and helps restore the tree's natural shape

Crown Thinning involves the removal of secondary and small live branches from throughout the crown to a maximum of 25%.   This will increase light levels and reduce wind resistance to leave the tree with an overall balanced branch structure,  whilst retaining its original size and shape.

tree crown reduction

downsizing the spread & height of a tree by removing selected branches

Crown Reduction involves reducing the overall crown/canopy of the tree by selectively pruning the crown area,  from the tips of the branches to suitable growth points.   The extent of the reduction process will be determined by the species,  location and overall structural integrity of the tree.

tree crown lifting

a process of thinning back lateral branches to increase the ground clearance below a tree's canopy, making the space more useable by allowing light and wind penetration.

treeteam.wales do this by either removing whole branches,  or those parts that extend below the desired height,  in order to allow access below the tree,  clear sight lines,  improve views or permit light and wind to penetrate to the ground.   It is often done to help dry out waterlogged,  shaded ground beneath a tree and does much less damage to the tree than reducing its canopy size.

Crown lifting is best done gradually over a period of two or three years.

utility maintenance

protecting overhead power & telephone cables from excessive tree growth or diseased and storm damaged branches

Since the amendment of the ESQC regulations in 2006,  managing trees and vegetation to minimise unplanned service interruptions,  even in adverse weather conditions,  became a statutory obligation of power distribution Companies.

However;  where utility cables,  including telephone and internet,  cross onto private property,  this responsibility passes to you,  the landowner.

treeteam.wales' arborists are trained to work near power lines and will ensure that the minimum clearance distance is kept from overhead power lines.   In urban settings,  this is approximately 10 feet or 3 metres.
